LC Classification

Library of Congress Reading Room

The Library of Congress (LC) Classification is the subject classification system used in most academic and research libraries.

Call Numbers

The Call Number is used to locate an item in the library. Refer to the following for more information:


Use OneSearch to find books, media and other electronic resources.


  1. Begin with a Keyword search when researching a topic, then look at the "Subjects" of relevant books to further refine your search
  2. A Subject search uses Library of Congress subject headings, so refer to #1 or check with a librarian for the exact heading for your topic
  3. When searching by Author, enter the last name first
  4. Search for textbooks using Course Material

Bibliographic Record

Every item in the library catalog has a bibliographic record associated with it. The bibliographic record contains a full description of the item, and information about its location and availability (status).
