US History Primary Sources

eHistory has thousands of images and hundreds of maps available on the site. These resources, many of them primary sources, are fully searchable. We will be adding more content on an ongoing basis as well to better serve students, teachers and enthusiasts of history.

eHistory began as a Civil War site, and the current collection of maps and images are mostly from the U.S. Civil War, World War II, and Vietnam. We will be adding new images and maps in order to round out the collection.

The Geography and Map Division of the Library of Congress holds more than 4.5 million items, of which Map Collections represents only a small fraction, those that have been converted to digital form. The focus of Map Collections is Americana and Cartographic Treasures of the Library of Congress.

Maps that provided detailed information on structures in different cities across the USA. Sanborn company created these maps for insurance purposes beginning in the 19th and 20th centuries.
