items are out on loan, you can see when they are due
back.

when it is returned - the library will inform you when it is available.
Talk to a Reference Librarian or Circulation Staff Member, and a hold will
be placed for you.
View your circulation record
Enter your name and library card number to check the
loans you currently have.
Navigation
Options
You can use the Web browser utilities to scroll and to
move forward and backward through the pages that you have previously viewed.
For most information manipulation however,
you will need to make use of the built-in navigation
buttons, combined with clicking on highlighted links
in the record displays.
Basic Navigation
Having chosen the Library Catalog, select a search option (ex. Subject or Title,
etc.)
.A combination help and search input
screen is then offered.
Place the cursor in the input box by
clicking in it.
If you selected a "Subject" search,
type the subject, then press ENTER.
In most cases, you will retrieve more
than one record and will be presented with a summary
screen.
You will also see a Navigation button
bar with:
Boxes to enable you to quickly input a new search
term and/or move to a different search index.
A table with brief single line entries
for each record retrieved
At the bottom of the screen is an option
to view other results pages, rather than move forward
and backwards by page - useful for larger sets of
records. For Example, Results page: 1 2 3 4 Next
Manipulation of Summary Screens
Extended Display
Click on
to
expand the summary information shown. The extra data
you see will depend on the search type performed. Often

summary - this is particularly useful for subjects
where material is held at several locations, to give
a quick view of what is available to you immediately
where you are.
LIMITING
AND SORTING
Click on
This opens up a screen with a number of options to alter your search set or
display it differently.
You can limit your results by setting
up as many of the options as you wish and then clicking
on the button at the base of screen to repeat the
search.
Note that when your search is redisplayed,
at the top of the screen new information is provided,
summarizing all the limits which you selected and
the resulting number of hits from the re-search.
PLEASE NOTE: Once you have chosen "Limit
this Search" and made some selections, the prompt
disappears from the navigation bar when the new set
is displayed. However,
if you decide you want to modify your sort/selection choices, just use
the BACK button on your browser to get the selection page up, change your
choices and search again.

THE
RESERVES COLLECTION
Using the "RESERVES" button
on the CATALOG PAGE menu, you can see quickly which
items have been put into the reserve collection
for a particular course, and whether they are on
loan or available.
To search in this way, you need to
know the lecturer's name or the name of the course.
Access
The two search options are on the RESERVES SEARCH page.
Search by Instructor Name
Put in the surname (last name) of the lecturer.
If there is more than one entry,
look for entries for YOUR campus. Each entry
indicates which campus the reserve is for, by listing the
abbreviations for the 3 campuses (Riv, Nor, or
Mvy). Click on the line for the information
for your class.
Search by Course Title
Put in the 3 letter code for the course, listed in the schedule of classes.
If a list of 3 letter codes is displayed, choose the three letter code
that is followed by the abbreviation for YOUR campus (Riv, Nor or Mvy)
Where there are several matching
entries, choose a course from the index displayed
by clicking on the line you want.
Screen Display
The top of the screen shows you the lecturer's name, the department or brief
course name, and then further details of the course - if this is not
the course you want, click on
and
then select again from the index.
The lower screen lists all the items
attached to that course.
Click on the title you need in order
to get a fuller display (showing the location of
the item, whether it is available, and how long
you can use it) - return to course details by clicking
on RETURN TO BROWSE.
Write down the call number of the
item you need and take it, along with your library
card, to the Circulation Desk, to check out the
item.
